Pupils in Year 1 having been learning about homes through the ages. As part of this theme they embarked on a field trip around the main school building - Buckfield House, to find out all about the history of the former stately home. The children learnt that the site dates back to the Medieval times, but the current building, Buckfield House, was built in the late Victorian era. Throughout the trip, they spent time spotting lots of other original Victorian features including magnificent fireplaces, staircases and wood panelling. They learnt that a Word War I hero, Aidan Liddell, and his family used to live there and they enjoyed looking at the Liddell family photos and replicas of Aidan Liddell’s war medals, which included the prestigious Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded. It was a brilliant morning exploring!
