On Friday 12th November we held the annual Sherfield Prep Harvest Festival. After the disruption of the past eighteen months it was a delight to be able to hold the event in person this year and to welcome so many parents to the event. Every year group from Pre-Reception to Year 6 took part, having carefully rehearsed a song or story to perform to a large audience of parents, staff and their peers. Songs included the Harvest Samba, Big Red Combine Harvester and the timeless ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy!’
Harvest Festivals are an annual tradition that in the UK, date back to Pagan times, and are rooted in thanks given for a successful or bountiful harvest. It is a time for reflection and thanksgiving for the ample food we are fortunate enough to grow or buy, and enjoy. At Sherfield we use our Harvest Festival as an opportunity to collect and donate food to the Basingstoke Food Bank, in support of the fantastic work that they do to provide much needed meals to those in need.
We are grateful to all those who were able to donate to the cause and are pleased to announce that Sherfield’s collection amounted to 142.68kg, this is equivalent to 340 meals! Basingstoke Food Bank have passed their thanks to the school and report that this will go a long way to support local people in crisis.
Well done to all the students who took part in the event. You can watch a video montage of some of the performances by clicking on the image link below.
