Inspirational People
Inspirational people are the people we look upon for encouragement, motivation or guidance. The dictionary definition of inspiration is ‘the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative’. In a school environment, particularly at Sherfield, inspiration is evident on a daily basis from younger pupils looking up to pupils in the Senior School and older pupils being influenced by their peers or teachers.
On a personal level, I take inspiration from Sir Ben Ainslie, a four-time Olympic sailing champion who was motivated to achieve more after receiving silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in the Laser class. At the following four Games, he topped his Laser and Finn classes achieving gold and since London 2012 has endeavoured to continue sailing through joining the America’s Cup.
In 2016 I was fortunate to be a Wavemaker volunteer at the America’s Cup event in Portsmouth. The experience was incredible together with meeting and watching numerous world-class sailors who inspire me to continue sailing and develop my skills in order to become more qualified at sea. To top my 2016 summer off, I had work experience with Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing. Working for Ben Ainslie in the design team through analysing data, documenting racing and following the training from a chase boat furthered my affection for all things nautical.
Since Miss Huyton’s Monday morning assembly I believe that pupils in the Senior School should be feeling inspired to consider those in our lives that have an influence on us and how this can better our outlook in life.
