The gift of a shoebox to the people who live in poverty in Eastern Europe brings them great happiness. The simple things that we take for granted in our day to day life brings the people receiving our gifts so much joy. But most importantly, it lets them know that people more fortunate than them care about them. Many will have never received a present before, so a box full of educational items, toys and toiletries is amazing.
This week Mr. Fisher spoke about Global Citizenship and with all the poverty that remains in our world how it is important we do what we can to help those that are in need. At Sherfield we pride ourselves on all being Global Citizens and have always gone the extra mile to help people in need both at home and abroad.
Last Christmas Rotary sent 1012 shoe boxes from Basingstoke to disadvantaged children across Eastern Europe. This Included 250 from Sherfield School. The boxes go to disadvantaged children living in Poverty in Eastern Europe. Countries including Romania, Moldova, Eastern Croatia, Armenia, Montenegro and Ukraine. It is our goal as a school to improve on last year's collection and come together to bring love and joy to these Children at Christmas. The deadline for the shoeboxes to be given into school is Monday 16 October. So there is still time to support our cause this half term.
My overriding goal is to create an inclusive, friendly atmosphere where every member of the community is welcomed and where new pupils feel part of something special, just like I did. I feel immensely privileged to have been given this position and am excited about everything that the future holds.
