Thank you for coming today to celebrate the success of the Senior School. I feel very privileged to be standing in front of you as Head Girl alongside Miles.
I would like to start by thanking Thomas Jenkins, our outgoing Head Boy who has done a fantastic job over the last year in leading the school. One of his key projects was the extremely successful International Evening which was a very well attended event that saw the wide variety of talent showcased throughout the school.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the last year at Sherfield where I have been able to make many new friends and embrace many opportunities. Sixth Form at Sherfield is one of a kind, particularly with the mix of international and UK students who have all bonded over the last year to create a close knit group of sixth formers. Due to the multiculturalism of students and the community feel within the school, I have been able to make friends with not only people who live locally and are in my year but those who live in China, Spain and Germany and are in lower years; this is something I have particularly liked about Sherfield.
The opportunities that I have taken advantage of have mainly been volunteering and getting involved wherever possible, be it Pre-Prep sport, the Prep Outdoor Adventure Day or Sports Days.
Over the next year, there are many positive changes that will be happening throughout the school, for example the development of the new All-Weather Sports Pitch, bush craft opportunities and taster days for Year 10 in the Sixth Form of which two have already occurred. These days were a success with taster lessons and talks from parents, staff and myself and Miles Bromilow.
My Prefect project is known as Pizza Fridays and it is where once a term, Year 10 or 11 will have the opportunity to visit Sixth Form with pizza as an incentive to chat to the current students about life in Sixth Form, how it all works and the subjects you can take. It is designed to be informal and therefore a discussion between students. I hope that the idea is a success and that those who attend enjoy their time and consider Sherfield for Sixth Form. Other projects which have been put in place by Prefects and Senior House Captains include a mentoring scheme, a Sixth Form Library and a support network for the students.
Over the summer I hope everyone has a relaxing and rewarding time and as we look to the next year and beyond, I am delighted that before I leave Sherfield for university I am able to lead the school in a time of many positive changes.
