As we enter the final week of a busy Autumn term, it is worth reflecting on the opportunities to participate and excel at Sherfield School. Whether this is through the day to day taught curriculum, the rich array of co-curricular clubs and activities or the more extended provision across the school. From Nursery welly walks and outdoor learning to Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and sporting success, pupils have many and varied experiences which complement and enhance their educational journey. The recent Year 5/6 show, Junior Prep Nativity, Autumn Concert and Piano Extravaganza are further examples of opportunities for our children.
The thematic learning approaches in Junior and Senior Prep, connecting the learning across subjects and topics so pupils understand the relevance has also really enhanced our provision. External visits to the Natural History Museum or Victorian classroom are further examples of learning in context.
Throughout all these experiences, there is a central theme running which is ‘Opportunity’. As we provide a wealth of opportunities for our pupils, they develop their own creative thinking, make decisions and promote curiosity in their minds. The rich variety of opportunity enables young people to enjoy broad and balanced experiences and when they discover their real interests, then they accelerate in their development and pursue excellence. This is very apparent with the forthcoming performance of School of Rock. As the trailer is released today, you will witness the fabulous talents of the cast on show. I’m sure will be enticed into purchasing a ticket when they go on sale and joining us in the New Year for the performances.
I hope you will also join us next week for our annual Christmas Carol Concert and I certainly look forward to meeting you and wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
