The end of the Autumn term at Sherfield is always such a wonderful festive occasion, with so much cheer, joy and celebration. With decorations aplenty, a Christmas Market, Santa’s Grotto, Autumn Concert, Piano Extravaganza, Breakfast with Santa, Christmas performances and of course the famed Carol Service to name a few, there is a great deal of goodwill and enjoyment around.
It is this time of year when the Sherfield Spirit is in abundance! Can you feel it? It’s that palpable feeling of community, togetherness and ethos of positivity and enjoyment of life. Our school motto, ‘Ad Vitam Paramus’ resonates loudly and threads through the school as our students prepare for the rich tapestry of life ahead. There is so much to celebrate and so little time to do so, therefore in such incredibly challenging times it remains exceptionally important to normalise the experiences for our students as much as we possibly can. In a ‘can do’ positive culture, our students understand that anything is possible in life, solutions are always available and resilience and adaptability are incredibly important qualities. Our student community is amazing and during this week, we have been once again celebrating their individual and collective achievements. They continue to flourish, thrive and mature as well rounded, globally aware, respectful and responsible individuals, each with their own vibrant personality and magnificent talents.
The special bond and togetherness that wraps around our school community will enable us all to look forward with renewed optimism to a brighter future in 2022 and beyond. The amazing network of support is encapsulated through the incredible commitment and dedication of the Friends of Sherfield parental network. During the last two years, through lockdown after lockdown, this amazing group have continued to support our students in so many ways. From Family Fun Days, Christmas Markets, Summer Balls, Fireworks celebrations, Christmas decorations and even the odd ‘Zoom’ night gin and wine tasting they have continued to lead by example, discovering enterprising and creative solutions to any challenges encountered. Many congratulations to not only the Friends of Sherfield committee for their drive, enthusiasm and commitment, but also to all the parents and supporters who have provided raffle prizes, volunteer support at events and so much more.
During the last two years, Friends of Sherfield have raised in excess of £60,000 and I am delighted to report that all of these funds are being used to provide more experiences for students at Sherfield. In the early Spring of 2022, a new outdoor learning structure will arrive for the woodland facilitating further learning opportunities in the outdoors and a fully equipped health and fitness suite will be provided on the first floor of the sports hall. These are wonderful facilities which will further broaden the experiences for our students whilst also providing a focus on wellbeing in such difficult times. Moving forward, the Friends of Sherfield group are always looking for new joiners so please do get in touch if you can offer any support. They will also be seeking new projects to support and so if you do have any great ideas please also pass them through to the group.
Finally, on behalf of all the staff at Sherfield, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year!
Kind regards
