Unusually, as we find ourselves at the end of our third week of the new school term, this is the first opportunity to formally welcome our school community back to school for the academic year 2022-23. So, welcome back everyone to the new school year at Sherfield School!
The events of the last two weeks have given us the opportunity to reflect on the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Her selfless devotion to her role, carried out with such integrity and dignity is an example to us all. I’m sure the constant media spotlight must be incredibly challenging to navigate and she has certainly shown humour, humility and respect through her influence and impact throughout her reign.
As we move forward with a focus on the future, we will continue our unique approach to developing our children into ambitious, thoughtful, inquisitive, respectful and confident individuals, equipped with the skills and experiences to be successful in a rapidly evolving society. This year we have identified three key priorities as part of our School Strategy Plan, which focus on a Connective Community, a Culture of Challenge and Healthy Futures. Experiences inside and outside of the classroom and the relationships we foster are central to these priorities as we continue to develop confident, creative and connected young people.
Despite the wider events, the start to the school term has once again been busy and very productive. Already during our first few weeks, we have had the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students in their GCSE and A-level examinations. We also enjoyed a vibrant and engaging Enrichment Fair, whilst our Prep students have also celebrated Roald Dahl Day. Nursery and Pre-Reception children enjoyed a special Grandparents' Activity Afternoon and a visit from Miller’s Ark Mobile Farm (although I might add some of our Sixth Form students and staff were also very eager to visit the farm!) whilst our whole school have shown their support for Jeans for Genes day today.
We are very excited about the full opening of our new dining facility and will be sharing an Opening Day event very soon. Thank you for your ongoing patience and please rest assured we are still operating a full dining experience for our students.
It is also my pleasure to welcome new students and parents to our school community. I know they have been made to feel very welcome by parents and students already and many new friendships have quickly developed. It is always so wonderful to see how well new students integrate and how supportive our existing students are during the start of a busy school year. On Friday 30 September, we will be hosting a Junior Prep Open Morning, whilst a Year 7 Open Morning is scheduled for Friday 14 October.
Finally, thank you once again for your ongoing support and commitment. As I often mention, the ‘Sherfield Spirit’ threads strongly through the school community and binds us together with a common goal. We are here for each other and will continue to guide and support our young people to be the best versions of themselves.
