In the past few weeks, we have all needed to embrace significant changes and operate in a very different way. I would very much like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the dedication and hard work of our staff, they have managed to seamlessly migrate years of classroom practice to an online learning environment in a matter of days.
Thank you also to those parents who have contacted the school to express their thanks to teaching staff for moving so quickly to the remote learning platform and have praised the content and quality of the materials being shared with pupils in all year groups.
A huge thanks also to the pupils. They have demonstrated real independence, resilience and adaptability in their learning which will enable them to continue to flourish in the future. They continually make us proud and it is an absolute delight to witness their ongoing development.
We fully recognise that there will be a step-change between the provision of online learning over a week to over a term, which is what will be necessary through the summer. Therefore, in order to ensure that we are fully prepared for online learning for the summer term, we will be adjusting the Easter break dates so pupils will return on Friday 24th April. This is so that we can gather together our learning to ensure staff are able to undertake reflection and training while the experience of the recent past is fresh. This would include sharing and enshrining best practice in online learning, enabling the preparation of resources and ensuring that we build staff technical capacity in regard to online tools, security and safeguarding.
We will be continuing with our video conferences with parents, which have proved invaluable in refining our approaches. The next meetings will be held on Friday 24th April and we will send invitations via ParentMail. In the meantime, if you have any feedback you wish to share please send directly to hmpa@sherfieldschool.co.uk.
Thank you to all of you for your ongoing support and understanding. I wish you well for the Easter break.
