The response of the Sherfield School community during the current crisis has been absolutely astonishing, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every individual for their continued efforts. The incredible commitment and dedication of pupils, parents and staff, with sheer determination to tackle all obstacles, is unwavering and wonderful to witness. When you encounter a significant challenge as a community, you really do find out how strong your collective spirit is and the last 6 weeks has certainly presented such a challenge!
As we continue to evolve in our response to online learning and social distancing protocols, it is important to recognise the emotional challenges we face at this time and their impact. With no clear indication of when we can return to normality, it is sometimes difficult to make sense of everything and understand the context in which we currently live and work. For our children, this is now the time when they may well display concern and anxiety as they struggle to cope with social isolation and boredom. We must also recognise that the impact is also significant for parents and staff, so it is so important that we continue to engage and look after each other as a community.
Moving forward, we are very hopeful that next week, Boris Johnson will share a ‘road map’ for England, with a clear indication of when schools can return and life can begin to get back to normal. As soon as these decisions are made, we will endeavour to prepare the Sherfield School site ready for the return of students. This will inevitably create a ‘new normal’, as we consider preventative measures and interpret social distancing protocols for schools. When this information is released, I will certainly be in touch.
In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and stay healthy. The rest of this newsletter is full of lovely stories and activities involving our army of online learners, so please enjoy reading!
