You may well remember a really poignant newsletter introduction last year from our Head Girl of Senior Prep, India regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. A fascinating piece of writing as she projected herself into the future, to a time where she was retelling the story of the pandemic to her grandchildren.
Reflection is so important and as we stop for a moment and consider where we are at this time, it starts to feel a bit like a Hollywood film set. Pandemics, face coverings, endless sanitising, further lockdown, Brexit, economic uncertainty and to top it all off, election madness and almost another civil war in the United States. It certainly sounds like a movie script that would gain some traction! Or perhaps we are about to awaken from a very strange and bizarre dream and everything will be okay again tomorrow? These moments and events in our history will most definitely be re-told for generations to come.
Nevertheless, as we continue to navigate our path through the uncertainty, the focus should be on the future for our children and equipping them with the skills, knowledge, experiences, emotional intelligence and most importantly strong values to take a responsible approach to the world they will inherit. As always, our students continue to astound us with their maturity, creativity and thirst for learning. This week, they have returned fresh, reinvigorated and have adapted to the lockdown arrangements so well.
With Remembrance Day approaching, now is perhaps an important time to spend a moment to reflect not just on those who have lost their lives through conflict, but also those who have been affected so much by the current situation. At the same time, looking forward to a bright future when all this is behind us is essential. I often talk about positive mindset and taking a ‘glass half-full’ approach to life and the importance of positive role models for our children is paramount. However, at this time, I would definitely suggest that our children consider how much positivity, passion and responsibility they bring. They are brilliant ambassadors for Sherfield School and we continue to be so proud of each and every student.
As always, we are always here to help and support so please do get in touch if we can assist you in any way.
Regards
Mr Brain, Headmaster
