Last week Year 9, accompanied by five teachers, went to London for the day. First stop was the Natural History Museum and the Living Earth exhibit. Pupils were able to explore and discover more about volcanos and earthquakes, supporting work being done in Geography this half-term. After lunch we travelled to the Houses of Parliament. Once through security we had a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, going to both the House of Commons and House of Lords. We saw the new stained-glass window commissioned to celebrate the centenary of voting rights for women and the lights on the window turn on and off during the day according to the height of the River Thames. The pupils took part in a workshop learning about how a Bill becomes a Law. The pupils had prepared questions to ask our MP, Ranil Jayawardena, and at the end of our trip Ranil spent 20 minutes talking to the pupils and answering their questions.
