Year 4 have started looking at digestion, and enjoyed an exciting science lesson to recreate this process. The class were the teeth and ‘chewed’ biscuits by crushing them. These went into the 'mouth', along with saliva (water) and a banana. This mixture travelled down the oesophagus into the stomach (plastic bag), where stomach acid (orange juice) was added and churned. The mixture then travelled the small intestine (tights), and the goodness was absorbed back into the body. Anything left at the end of this process passed into the large intestine (cup), before being pushed through a small hole as waste. The class described it as “fun but gross!” but all enjoyed the science and didn’t appear to be squeamish!
