Year 4 have been looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy; art made from found natural objects. Making the most of the fantastic weather, they collected various coloured leaves and conkers to make a piece of art in the shape of a spiral. Split into two groups, the children set to work organising the materials into size, colour and shape and then carefully produced the spiral sculpture by selecting appropriate materials.
Problems such as how to stop the wind from blowing the leaves away were solved by topping the leaves with conkers or piercing them into the ground with small sticks. Teamwork played a great part, allowing the children to discuss what was needed, designate jobs and agree on a plan to produce the best outcome.
Lastly, they were asked to name their piece and it was photographed for reference as with all land art it would change with the effects of weather and time. The names they chose were:
Boys Team - William the Conker
Girls Team - Naturana
