On Monday 31st January, the Modern Foreign Languages department had arranged a special visit for the Year 6 and 7 students, who all gathered in the Courtyard Studio, buzzing with nervous excitement, not knowing what to expect! The visitors were Onatti Productions, an educational theatre company who perform energetic and inspiring plays to support language lessons. They were here to perform ‘The World’s Gone French,’ a play about a boy called Kieran, who is given a jigsaw of the world, but some countries are missing. When he finishes it something strange happens - everyone he knows is only speaking in French - fluent French, including his mum, his gran and even his little sister! He works out that the countries missing on the jigsaw are all the countries in the world that speak French! Finding the pieces might revert his world back to English. But to complete this he needs to use his French to communicate... with everyone!
There was a great deal of audience participation and the students loved it – being half in English and half in French, they were able to practice their listening, translating and speaking skills, within a fun and engaging context. But don’t take our word for it! You can read some of their reviews below:
"The play was the perfect balance between education and entertainment." Alex, Year 7
"I felt that the play was planned very well, the characters spoke fluently in French and the actors were engaged with the audience. Overall the play was very entertaining and interesting." Keo, Year 7
"I really liked the play as they had a good balance of comedy and French. There was a great theme to the play. I got to learn new French vocabulary and they had good props." Navita, Year 7
"I think it was great because we understood most of the vocabulary. It was aimed towards us and we all thought it was amazing! I would want to see them next year!" Sam, Year 6
"It was very enjoyable to watch. I also loved that there was lots of audience participation. I loved what they created with only two people! The sound effects went well and I really enjoyed the plot." Isabel, Year 6
