On the last weekend in September, pupils took part in the annual Year 7 camp within the school grounds. After learning how to put up tents, the children enjoyed a barbecue followed by team building and problem-solving games. They then enjoyed a night trek through the school woods and surrounding countryside before retiring to bed in their tents, where some sleep was achieved (apparently). Top marks to Mr Cross and Miss Hight for enduring the camping out with them! After a fantastic Sherfield cooked breakfast and putting the tents away, the children learned how to use a camp stove to make hot drinks, followed by a series of orienteering lessons and exercises. A competitive element of this was won narrowly by Mr Cross’ tutor group. Apart from learning skills which feed into the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the pupils had a lovely time getting to know each other and their pastoral leaders at the start of this academic year. Many thanks to Mr Cross, Miss Hight and Mr Page for helping to make it all happen.
