On Monday 8th November Sherfield hosted Barrie McDermid, the star of the one man ‘Punctuation Show’ to as student Jamie put it, ‘make grammar as interesting as it can be but also make it fun’. The interactive show was for Senior Prep pupils, who were asked to write their own reviews of the performance, so here are their verdicts…

The Punctuation Show teaches children how to use different types of punctuation correctly. The presenter, Barrie, helped show this by using catchy songs and raps. The sketches, songs and learning were incredible because they made me and my friends laugh. I liked how he chose people from the audience to answer questions relating to the punctuation he showed us. I’d rate the show a five out of five as it was entertaining and a great way to recap.

I think that overall the show was straight to the point. The songs have been stuck in my head for the past week (I guess it’s working then)! I think that it was very good and age appropriate with all the funny sketches and songs - a good way to keep it in our minds. I also really like the way Barrie involved us and made us laugh. Overall I think that the show was a great idea to help us understand a bit more about punctuation and how to use each type.

I think the show stood out to me amongst many live educational shows I've watched and I think the different elements of singing, dancing, and quizzes made it great.

I liked the way he used songs and sketch animations to help remember and learn the different types of punctuation, such as “apostrophe” = “a posh trophy”. It was also funny how he presented it.
