We are Millie and Sasha; we are currently in our first year of sixth form here at Sherfield. We believe that the sixth form should have more of a contributive voice within the school. As we are both studying English as one of our A-levels, we both thought that this will be the best way to be heard. This column will be dedicated to life at sixth form, from the student’s perspective; covering a variety of topics from coping with exam stress to the culture of the sixth form hot chocolate.
As our first article, we thought it would be appropriate to discuss the recent performance of School of Rock, as one of our fellow sixth formers and good friend, Oisin Maguire starred as the lead role of Dewey Finn. To fully appreciate his experience, we decided to interview him to get the inside scoop.
We were intrigued to learn how he balanced learning lines and rehearsals with staying on top of schoolwork. Oisin said that he had to ensure that he was always switched on and had to carefully divide his time to create a perfect balance, aided by scheduling his free periods. The sixth form grants students with allocated time to do extended study and Oisin dedicated some of his study periods to the production.
Our next question involved discussing working with pupils from a variety of years and how he as a sixth former has inspired them to continue performing or even continue their education at Sherfield. Oisin was honoured to receive appreciation from younger students who said they “look up to” him and his work ethic.
As our last question, we asked Oisin to sum up the performance in three words, his response being: awesome, thrilling and ROCKING!
