We are thrilled to announce that Sarah-Jane (SJ) Nichols has been selected to attend the Queens Platinum Jubilee Pageant in London on Sunday 5th June! SJ is the Housekeeper at Sherfield and has worked as part of the Facilities team for the past 17 years. Prior to joining Sherfield, she was a competitive BMX Racer and World Champion!
SJ started BMX racing back in 1981 and raced competitively until the late 1980s. During this time, she was National Champion multiple times, four-times European Champion, winning in the UK, Belgium, Spain, and Germany. In 1986, she was British, European and World Champion in the 16+ Girl’s age category.
In recognition of these incredible achievements, SJ has been selected to take part in the pageant. She will be riding her original 1986 Redline BMX bike in a parade through central London, past Buckingham Palace, in front of a live crowd of tens of thousands and broadcast on the television to an audience of millions across the world.
SJ continues to get involved in old-school BMX events and reunions and has even been trying out the new style BMX bikes at Andover BMX track… maybe a comeback in the 30+ ladies class is in her sights! Who knows, watch this space!
