We are pleased to announce that Sherfield School has been named 'Rising Star' in the British International Education Association's 2021 STEM-based competition.
The BIEA brings together educators and young people from around the world, who share a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Sherfield parent, Andy Pugh, Special Advisor in Technology and Honorary STEM Ambassador for the BIEA, explains:
'Earlier this year Sherfield's Year 9 pupils, Violet, Harry and oliver, led by Head of Design and Technology, Mr Ben Marshall, took part in the BIEA's annual competition, 'Repack to Restore Our World,' to design sustainable packaging used for packed lunches.
Wednesday 22nd September was the BIEA's awards ceremony to celebrate the winners. Out of hundreds of applicants from education establishments from around the world, just 42 schools were shortlisted. With some extremely tough competition from countries including India, China and Malaysia, just getting into the final was going to be a big task.
I'm pleased to announce, that although Sherfield's team didn't make the top spots, we did make the 'Rising Stars' category, which is a great achievement, considering it was Sherfield's first time in entering the competition.
I invited Nerys Mutlow, Sherfield parent and Evangelist for software giant ServiceNow to present a motivational piece to wrap up the awards.
Congratulations for all the efforts from 'Team Sherfield' and I'm confident that next year we'll get to the top.
Onwards and Upwards!'
