Sherfield pupils in Year 4 have been learning about ‘A village in India’ in their Geography lessons.
In December they enjoyed an interactive lesson online with pupils from Pedaparthi Primary School, Anaparthi Mandal in the East Godavri district of Andhra Pradesh, India. School Teacher Mr Kumar at this village school was supported by Mr Sabbella, who travelled especially from 200km away in India to give technical support for the session. Pedaparthi Primary School has just 3 computers and suffers frequent power cuts.
The children asked each other questions about their respective schools, sang songs together and compared work they had done. It was fascinating to see children from two very different countries sharing a lesson land getting to know each other.
Sherfield is developing links with schools overseas to enhance curriculum and learning experiences. One of our pupils reflected afterwards as follows:
“Their school is very different from our school because they write on slate with chalk. This means that they have to memorize what they write and draw. To finish the session off, we sang a Christmas song called ‘Ring out the bells’and they sang the Indian national anthem. We really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk to Mr Sabbella, Mr Kumar and all the lovley children and they clearly enjoyed it too.”
