Last week all pupils in Year 7 and 8 visited Winchester Science Centre. The day kicked-off with a visit to the planetarium and here they were enthralled by “The Wonders of the Universe”. This was led by a dynamic speaker, who after the talk gave the pupils an opportunity to ask questions about inhabiting and terraforming other planets within the solar system and what happens when we go through a black hole! During their visit Year 7 and 8 took part in a “Forces and Rockets” workshop where they discussed what makes a good rocket and were shown inspiring demonstrations to encourage their thinking. In small groups they went on to design and make their own water rockets for a competition. In addition, pupils had the opportunity to explore the centre where they could take part in the hands-on, interactive activities centred around Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
