The 14 March each year is World Pi Day (3.14) and as a school we celebrated this on Monday.
Pupils took part in a variety of activities in their Maths lessons to mark this important day in the Mathematical calendar. Every student in the school was given a star to write on where their birthday appears in the digits of Pi, with some students having to wait for almost 4 mission digits to see their birthday! These were then put together to create a display in the Maths corridor in Buckfield.
In Junior Prep students heard the story of Sir-Cumference and the first round table. Years 7-9 were challenged to see how many digits of pi they could memorise and recite. The winners were in Evan in Year 7 (62 digits), Charlie in Year 8 (62 digits) and India in Year 9 (51 digits). These year groups also competed in the annual Pi-chains relay which requires teams to create the longest correct chain of digits of Pi from strips of paper. Overall Wynstow won this competition, followed by Buckfield and then Loddon and Lydney in joint third place. A great day was enjoyed by all.
