Yet again Sherfield School has performed well across the board in both A Levels and GCSE results.
Last week we had another successful set of A Level results with notable success in PE, Spanish and Further Mathematics where candidates enjoyed 100% A* to C; in Psychology and German we saw 100% A* - A. We are delighted with the results, especially considering it is the second year of reformed A Level examinations with a reduction in the amount of coursework and pupils taking examinations at the end of the two year course. The national figures are down compared to last year, so our results are even more pleasing. Pupils exceeded their own expectations and look forward to their next steps into further education.
A week later and there are more smiling faces at the school on opening the GCSE results envelopes! Mr James-Roll said 'We are delighted that under the newly reformed GCSEs, 13% of our results were the top grade of 9 compared with the national figure of 4%. Pupils have achieved a 96% pass rate which is 30% above the national figure. Under the reformed system, where coursework has been reduced and the academic rigour increased, we were naturally concerned about the pressure the pupils were under but they have handled the challenge admirably. I am particularly pleased with the 100% pass rate in Mathematics and 96% in English.'
Pupils commented about the care and support they had received from their teachers, many of whom they have known since nursery.
Congratulations and well done everyone, we are really proud of all your hard work.
