Year 4 pupils discussed how ancient Egyptians used symbols and the importance of non-verbal communication, especially when meeting people who don’t speak your own language. The children used natural materials to create their own hieroglyphs and challenged each other to decipher what they meant.
Year 1 took science to the woods, thinking hard about what they knew about different bones in the human body. Using Allan Ahlberg’s book ‘Funny Bones’ as their inspiration, they created some brilliant woodland skeletons.
Year 3 used Roald Dahl’s book George’s Marvellous Medicine as inspiration for creating their own woodland remedy. They also built a shelter using a tarpaulin and some were quite keen to stay in it for the night! The children discussed the importance of trees and plants in the production of medicines and why it is so important that the world’s rainforests are protected.
