Sherfield held its very first Dinner in the Dark this term! The event, which was organised by a group of Year 12 BTEC Business students as part of their assignment, followed in the footsteps of the famous 'Dans le noir?' gourmet movement which originated in France in the late 1990s to early 2000s. The Sherfield Dinner in the Dark consisted of a three-course meal, which was eaten by the attendees while they were blindfolded. The main ideas behind this blind tasting experience is the notion that the meal and flavours therein can take on a whole new dimension when other senses are heighted through darkness.
The Sherfield experience invited students and staff to enjoy the formal meal in our Courtyard Studio. Our catering team created an incredible and delicious menu which featured a starter of anti-pasti meats or continental cheeses, followed by sirloin steak, tenderstem broccoli, garlic & rosemary new potatoes, balsamic-roasted tomatoes and a stilton sauce (or aubergine schnitzel for the veggies). This was finished off with a dark chocolate mousse desert with creme fraiche and a wild berry compote. In addition to the devouring the delicious food, attendees took part in a small game in which they were given three random objects to feel and guess! The event was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
