In Science this term, Year 4 have been learning about different habitats, with a focus this week on bees.
They have carried out a bee survey in their gardens, identifying different species of bees and what their perfect habitat is. To extend their learning, the children have been challenging themselves with a range of different activities from creating a butterfly feeder supporting other pollinators in local habitats, sharing practical ideas to make our gardens more appealing to bees, explaining how pollination works, building a LEGO habitat, making a model bee and baking using honey as an ingredient.
In History, Year 4 have been learning about different explorers including Sir Francis Drake, Amelia Earhart and Scott of the Antarctic. To further research the conditions and challenges that explorers faced, pupils created baked goods suitable for explorers (low water and high-calorie content), built shelters to protect the explorers from the elements and constructed their own compass by magnetising a needle.
