Well done everyone! We have made it to the end of a very different year at Sherfield! I don’t believe we have ever had so many volunteer home tutors before, however, with the utmost respect for everyone, I truly hope we don’t require your help in quite the same way in the future!
We have enjoyed a wonderful last week of term and the celebrations and fun activities have provided a great deal of light relief at the climax of an unusual term. It was lovely to still hold individual ‘bubble’ prize giving ceremonies in Junior Prep yesterday, compete in a staff vs sixth form rounders match (yes of course, the staff did win!), silly sports with Years 5 and 6, ‘bubble challenges’ with Year 10 and additional ‘virtual’ challenges and activities with Years 7 to 9. I hope you all enjoyed our ‘Virtual Speech Day’ video which was also released at the end of the day. We very much look forward to a return to the main event next year.
At the risk of focusing once again on the Covid-19 pandemic, I would just like to reassure you that we are already planning for September and the return of all students. The government have now released their guidance for schools, so we are developing our response. There will still be ‘bubbles’ and many other requirements to ensure the school community are kept safe. However, there will be some important changes which will enable us to function more effectively. In particular, there will be greater access to face to face delivery at GCSE and A-level as well as for younger year groups. We are also discussing our return to a fully catered service, and expect this to be available from the first day back at school. After school clubs will also return, however, the format will undoubtedly need to be different.
Our intention will be to write to you with more details approximately two weeks before the start of term. We will also hold Zoom calls to communicate the plans and answer any queries you may have. Any further changes in government guidance will hopefully have been communicated by then.
In the meantime, please take care, stay safe and enjoy your summer. Thanks once again for all your support.
