Sports Day 2018
On Friday 22 June we had our annual prep and senior sports day. It was a day filled with excitement, passion, fun, as well as some outstanding house spirit and high levels of athletics performance.
In the morning, years 9 to 12 competed in several events for their houses. The girls were on the track first with the boys in the field. The level of performance was particularly high, especially in the half way stage inter-house tug of war. After making it thorough a tough semi, Wynstow were victorious in the final beating a strong Buckfield team.
For the second half of the morning the boys came onto the track and the girls went into the field. Some notable performances include Nomso B who broke the long standing 100m record and Tilly P who smashed the girls’ triple jump record. After the senior relays came the chance for the staff to have a go. In the morning run the male staff came first, sixth form boys were second, sixth form girls third followed by the female staff team in 4th.
During the presentations the Victor Ludorum for best overall boy was awarded to Kieran P and the Victrix Ludorum for the best overall girl was awarded to Tilly P. In one of the closest overall house totals, it was Lydney who took the senior house cup beating Loddon by one point!
After lunch it was the turn of the prep school. The younger students showed just how much strength and depth there is at Sherfield with several closely fought races along with many records broken. Year 3 to 5 were on the track first with 6 to 8 in the field. Considering the extreme heat, the desire and house spirit was exceptional. The unity and teamwork on display was a shining example of what a fantastic place Sherfield is. After a quick change at the half way stage and a few cream tea’s provided by the Friends of Sherfield, years 3 to 5 moved into the field with 6 to 8 coming onto the track. Such was the effort from the students that a total of nine prep school records were broken. Thomas B broke the year 3 boys 60m record, Harper W broke the Y3 girls 600m record, Olivia B broke the Y4 girls 150m record, Thomas C broke the Y5 600m record, Ava W broke the Y5 girls 150m record, Stevie-Leigh C-W broke the Y7+8 girls 100m record, Aimee C broke the year 7+8 girls 200m and long jump records and Alex H broke his own Y7+8 Javelin record. There was no doubting who would take the prep house cup with Buckfield winning by some margin.
The final event of the day saw the sixth form relay teams confirm their victory in the second staff v sixth form relay race. A special mention must go to Thomas B and Alex H who took the two Prep Victor Ludorum titles as well as India W and Aimee C who took the two Prep Victrix Ludorum titles. 2018 sports day was another triumph with the whole school community coming together to celebrate the incredible efforts of the students, staff and parent helpers.
