A Unique Sixth Form Experience

Occupying over 76 acres of stunning parkland, Sherfield Sixth Form enjoys modern classrooms and facilities in a beautiful manor house dating back to the 12th Century.

Sixth Form is an exciting time for pupils, as they are able to select the subjects that they are most interested and enthused by. In the Sixth Form, pupils enjoy a greater range of freedoms and responsibilities, although still benefit from the support that is provided by a school. Many of our Year 11 pupils stay on into the Sixth Form, although we also welcome applications from students from other schools, who wish to join the Sixth Form to take advantage of the facilities, environment and personalised teaching that Sherfield offers.

Pathways and Opportunities

At Sherfield Sixth Form, students won't just graduate with three A Levels or BTECs. We offer a comprehensive Sherfield Diploma, enhancing the core A Level and BTEC programme with a variety of supplementary learning curricula. These enrich a student's educational experience and enhance employability and career, character, leadshership and interpersonal skills. The five specific pathways are: Business, Finance & Entrepreneur, Technology, Engineering & Sustainability, Scientific Research & Medical Studies, Global Studies and Arts & Performance.

Compulsory Supplementary Learning

In addition to the chosen pathways, students participate in compulsory supplementary learning:

  • Global Perspectives (CIE)
  • Ivy House Leadership Award
  • Fortnightly Service Programme
  • LIS Interdisciplinary Workshop Programme (Climate or EDI)

Additional Opportunities

Sherfield Sixth Form offers a range of additional opportunities to enhance the student experience:

  • Woodlands Team Building Trip: Every September, Year 12 and 13 students travel to the Brecon Beacons or the Gower Peninsula for a team-building weekend.
  • Summer Residential: Year 12 students attend the Ignite Campus for an outdoor education and sustainability programme.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award: Year 12 students can complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, with the Ignite Residential counting as the residential element.
  • EiM Student Leadership Conference: Our two Head Prefects attend the EiM Student Leadership Conference.
  • Mentoring Programme: Each student receives professional mentoring and thorough training, enabling them to support the school community effectively during their service activities.

Sherfield Sixth Form offers an excellent academic education within an environment where support and guidance for the individual is paramount.  The newly refurbish (Summer 2024) Sixth Form Centre helps to prepare students for university life, with quiet study areas, common rooms in which to relax and socialise, as well as kitchen facilities. Personalised careers advice and support with preparing university applications are embedded into the Sixth Form programme of study, with additional support offered to pupils who wish to apply for Oxbridge or Medical courses at university.

"Sixth Form leadership opportunities are everywhere. This year we have raised over £4,000 for charitable causes, taught reading to our youngest students in the Prep School and redesigned the Sixth Form kitchen. I've learned so much through the opportunities in the Sixth Form."

Megan, Year 13 Student

“Leaders ensure that the delivery of economic education in the sixth form, as part of their enrichment course, focuses on important life skills such as weekly budgeting and an understanding of the housing market.”

Teaching and Learning

Sherfield Sixth Form offers an excellent academic education within an environment where support and guidance for the individual are paramount. We are committed to ensuring that our A-Level and BTEC teaching groups are small, in order to ensure that each student receives personal guidance and feedback. For students looking to extend their learning, we have a number of programmes available, such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

"The support with higher education preparation has been brilliant and at the end of Year 12, I am so far ahead of so many of my friends at other schools. I have been given so much 1-1 support and guidance."

Aayan, Year 12 Student

"Huge thanks too for the care and attention you have shown to our son over the course of his sixth form career. Whilst at times a seemingly momentous challenge, at the beginning of his journey at the school, changing country, school system and language, I can honestly say that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Sherfield with you and the broader school community.

Under your leadership and mentorship, he has really risen to the challenge of working hard and engaging with his tutors over the last two years – this has been very visible to us during the last weeks where our house has turned into an online learning centre!

We are full of respect and admiration for the pastoral approach Sherfield is taking towards schooling."

"The level of support given by my teachers has been fantastic especially as I know that others at different schools and colleges have not been so lucky."
