We were very proud to have 8 Sherfield pupils representing Basingstoke District Schools at the Hampshire Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Having had quite a mild week, the temperature drop on the day was a bit of a surprise.
First to race at Wellesley Woods in Aldershot was Year 8 Evie B in the Year 8 and 9 race, racing over 3,350m. She ran a very well-paced event to finish in 29th place, with another year to go in that age group.
Up next were Caiden G (Y8), Caspar M (Y9) and Lachlan H (Y8) in the Year 8 and 9 4250m race. Caiden finished in 27th place, Caspar in 46th and Lachlan in 61st.
Next up were the Year 11 Daisy A and Year 10 Lola A in the Year 10 and 11 race over 3350m. Both girls had great races, with Daisy finishing in 10th and Lola in 12th. The Basingstoke Schools Inter Girls team impressively won the team title for this year.
Next to race were Year 10 Travis M and Year 11s Jack M and Aaron H in the Year 10 and 11 race over 5000m. Travis's winter training paid off, and he earned the silver medal and an automatic invite to the prestigious English Schools Cross Country in March. Jack ran well to finish in 45th, and Aaron did well to try and keep going despite a knee injury, completing 2/3 laps.
Daisy and Lola also earned selection for the Hampshire Schools Team at the South East Inter Counties event, which will be held at the Newbury Showground on Saturday, February 1st. Congratulations to all the runners, and good luck to our three athletes racing in the Inter Counties event.
Next up for our Sherfield Cross Country runners is the ISA London West event, which will be held at Sherfield School next Friday. We have a team of around 60 runners taking part- Good Luck!
