Last week a small team of Sherfield students took on the challenge of the British OCR Championships at the NEC in Birmingham. OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) is the new event in the Modern Pentathlon and all of these boys are already competing in Modern Pentathlon sports.
We are very fortunate at Sherfield to have Mr Gane who has been key to the boy's success. Mr Gane is Triple European and World OCR Champion and was newly crowned British Champion at the weekend event as well.
We arrived Friday evening for some practice and the boys saw the 100m course for the first time – it was huge! The wall was twice the height of the one they’d been training on at Ninja Warrior and that was the final obstacle! The boys worked incredibly hard for 2 hours and managed to make huge improvements on their ability to complete the obstacles – obstacles designed for adults.
There was a wall to get over that was 2m high and the first monkey bars obstacle was hard for them as the bars were quite far apart. What was amazing was their work ethic and their support of each other. Mr Gane was able to give great advice too and we were grateful for his time.
A huge congratulations to Rhys E (Year 9), Caiden G and Alex S (Year 8), Jesse N (Year 6) and Mr Gane.
