Sherfield golf scholars Fred and Albie, participated in the prestigious World Amateur Golf Ranking Event, which was attended by major Golf Academy Colleges from all over England. The competition drew teams from Hampshire, Essex, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, and Durham, with a total of 60 qualified participants, including Fred and Albie, where the event took place at Kedleston Hall Golf Club.
On day One, in the first round, both Fred and Albie made a solid start, scoring several birdies. Albie scored 74 and Fred scored 75, placing them both inside the top 10, while the leader shot an impressive 69. In round two, Fred fought back from a slow start and scored a series of birdies on the back 9, again finishing with a 75, securing a tie for 11th place by the end of day 2. Albie began round two strongly, scoring 5 birdies in his first 8 holes, and continued to score more birdies on the back 9, achieving a personal best round of 6 under 66. This also turned out to be the lowest round of the tournament, moving Albie into a tie for 2nd place at the end of round two.
On day two, in round three, both Fred and Albie displayed outstanding golf, although they didn't score the birdies their play deserved. Fred demonstrated consistency with another 75, finishing in 13th place. Albie had an up and down round but managed birdies on 16 and 17, keeping him in contention for the title, ultimately finishing in an outstanding 3rd place!
In the Net competition, Sherfield dominated! Fred's three rounds of 75 secured him the win, with Albie coming in a close 2nd place!
The outstanding level of play by our pupils showcases their talent and reflects positively on our school. The fact that Albie and Fred, as the youngest competitors, achieved high rankings in the competition, demonstrates the potential of our talented young golfers. We take pride in our golf program and are excited the future accomplishments of our rising stars!
