Last week, we took 21 Year 7 and 8 pupils to the Basingstoke District Cross Country Championships at Costello School. This event marked the first opportunity for Year 7 students to compete this season, while Year 8 athletes competed without Year 9 participants.
The Year 7 girls performed exceptionally well, with Siobhan H finishing in 5th place and Maya W close behind in 8th place. Other team members included Felicity A, Emily B, and Connie S, and together, they secured a 4th place finish for the team. In the Year 7 boys' event, Dylan E was crowned the Basingstoke Champion, followed by Douglas M in 5th place and Alex W in 6th. Eddie S and Bran A were also part of the team, which won the boys' Basingstoke Team Championship.
In the Year 8 girls' race, Evie B was the clear winner from the very start. Alara W finished 4th (just pipped at the line), followed by Niamh C in 5th, Tallulah S in 9th, and Ano M in 15th place. The Year 8 girls also clinched the team title.
The last race of the day was for the Year 8 boys, where Caiden G took the lead early on and maintained it throughout, with Lachlan H comfortably finishing in 2nd place. Filip K came in 6th, Alex D in 9th, Alex S in 13th, and Finley S in 19th. For the third time in the event, the Sherfield team won the team title.
