Towards the end of the Easter Holidays 4 Sherfield pupils competed at the European Biathle Qualifiers. Biathle is a continuous run-swim-run event and at this event the swimming part was held in a pool. The event was held in Blackpool with views of the famous Blackpool Tower on the run route! The top 6 finishers in each age group are selected for the Great Britain team to compete at the European Biathle Championships held in Madeira in July.
Ethan W (Y9) raced in the Under 15s age group and ran an incredibly strong race to finish in an awesome 2nd position, earning him a place in the Great Britian team.
Dylan E (Y6) showed his versatility and finished in an excellent 5th place in the Under 13 age group qualifying for Madeira. Siobhan H also competed in this age group and had a strong swim. Caiden G (Y7) was unable to compete following a nasty injury at an athletics event. His past great international form earned him a discretionary bye place in the GB team.
Declan O'C (Y5) competed in the Under 11s age group, finishing in a brilliant 6th place and earning himself his first international biathle race.
This weekend sees the European laser run and triathle (shoot-swim-run-repeat) qualifying events being held at Leweston School in Dorset. On Saturday we have 22 Sherfield pupils hoping to qualify for Madeira in the laser run event and on Sunday 12 pupils for the triathle event.

I'm very much looking forward to watching all our pupils compete and put into practice the many hours of hard work they've put in. We have pupils at all stages of the competitive journey from those taking part in their first event to those that have international medals.
