On Tuesday 14th December, Sherfield hosted a Victorian Day for our Year 6, to round off their thematic learning topic this term. Students were invited to wear period costume and attend their lessons in a traditional Victorian-style classroom for the day.
No Chromebooks or screens in sight! The children went back to basics, reciting their times tables and practised their handwriting. They learned about the rules and expectations in a Victorian classroom, and what the consequences were for not following those rules!
As part of the experience, they also created their own inventions, and practised playing Victorian games, teaching one another how to play them. It was fascinating to see the similarities and differences between the games we continue to play today. Charades was particularly interesting, watching it performed in short, silent scenes. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, which was a great way to round off a fantastic theme this term.
