Year 1 pupils took one of their class texts, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, into outdoor education this week. In the story, Mr Grinling transports his lunch from the cottage on the rocks all the way to the lighthouse using a pulley system, which his lunch basket travels along. The pupils were set a STEM challenge to build a basket that would be strong enough to hold a piece of fruit and travel along our own pulley system we had set up in the forest. In teams, children worked to construct and modify their baskets until they were happy. The best part was testing them and the brilliant engineers all succeeded in the challenge, as not one basket broke!
