At the start of each academic year Sherfield Sixth Formers get to take part in a range of fun team building activities. Year 12 student, Charlotte G explains what was involved:
'To complete our first week back at school, the Sixth Form students took part in a team activity, to help the Year 12 and Year 13 students to bond and get to know each other better.
We were assigned to teams of 5 or 6 students and create a base camp in the woods, design a team banner and hide our ‘loot’ for the other teams to try and find later in the day. This activity was great fun and certainly brought everyone closer together. Along with building our camps, banners, hiding our ‘loot’ and decoys, we also had to encrypt messages about ourselves and our loot.
During break each camp was inspected by Ms Seamark, to make sure we had kept to the rule of positioning ourselves within a 2-minute radius of the Sports Hall. After break, members of our teams were taken hostage by another team, and we then had to use the hostage to try to help us find their base camp and loot. The activity was very exciting, and everyone loved the change of scenery as we got to venture through the woods, especially as for many of us, this was the first time we got the chance to explore the woods.
Whilst everyone enjoyed getting to know each other it was extra special for my team because overall we won the challenge, as none of the other teams were able to find our hidden ‘loot’. We also won points for the best team banner, with our encrypted team name on it. It was a lovely surprise to find out that through winning we had also won an amazing £10 iTunes voucher that I'm sure everyone is eager to use. Overall, this day was very special for all the Sixth Former students and we are all looking forward to more team adventures over the coming year.'
