On Saturday our Primary Schools Swim Team had some fantastic swims at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. The ESSA swimming competition is open to ALL schools and schools swim in the category they fit into because of their pupil numbers across years 5 and 6.
Freestyle Relay
Luke W (Year 5), Freya L, Uri S and Dylan E (all Y6) swam a great heats race and got themselves into the B final having improved their team best time by a couple of seconds. They again swam incredibly well and finished 3rd in their final, which placed them 11th in the country!
Medley Relay
The team swam a fantastic heats race and improved their ranking position so much the got themselves into the A final! In the final Luke W led off the race with a very fast length of backstroke keeping up with all the other swimmers who are mainly in Y6! Bran A (Y6) then swam a fantastic breaststroke length. Freya L took over with a great length of butterfly and Uri S brought the team home with freestyle to finish the event in 8th place in the country!
Although a long way to travel it was so worth it to get the experience to swim at a top swimming pool. It really is a fantastic event where team captains parade onto poolside in their regions and then everyone stands for the national anthem (if we qualify again next year we must make sure the pupils know the words!!) before the president of the English Schools Swimming Association gives a speech and opens the event. It is live streamed so anyone at home can watch too. Fingers crossed for next year! A huge well done to our amazing team this year that absolutely swam their hearts out.
