At number 30, Sherfield School has been given the accolade of being named one of the top 100 STEM schools in the country, according to new rankings produced by Government-backed education campaign Your Life.
Your Life, which aims to boost uptake of A Level Maths and Physics, has worked with data science company Starcount to analyse School Performance Table Data from the Department for Education on England’s 2500 secondary schools. In doing so, it has provided the first in-depth analysis of schools’ performance in terms of both STEM subject and grade performance.
Welcoming the news, Head Master Nick Fisher said: ‘I received a letter last week congratulating our school on being one of the top 100 in England for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Sherfield is ranked 30 out of 2500 secondary schools This is a huge tribute to our maths and science teaching teams.
This is apposite timing, as this week we begin our Arts, Science and Sports Week at Sherfield – Sherfest. This festival is the brainchild of our Head Boy and the prefect team, designed to recognise and celebrate Art, Science and Sport; it will recognise their differences, break down the divisions between them and help illustrate their connections. This is all part of our new STEAM initiative which emphasises creativity in our curriculum and promotes the cross-fertilisation of ideas across artificial subject boundaries.’
