Last week it was cup-cakes, this week, cheese straws. The enthusiasm for our Mini Masterchefs Club has been fantastic and today saw our budding cooks tackling the cheesy task of folding flour, butter and cheese to make a "breadcrumb-like mix" and separating egg yolks for the mixture which they hoped would finally turn into cheese straws.
"I am good at cracking eggs............but perhaps not so good at separating them." (Very true!)
"Mrs Williams, we have 500 grams of flour - is that ok?" (Not when the recipe says 375 grams!)
"Mrs Williams our oven doesn't seem to be working." (It was!)
Generating the mixture took somewhat longer than anticipated and the chefs were getting worried (of course Mrs Williams wasn't).
Still very hot and very slightly gooey, the straws were finally (just about) done and happy chefs went home with their warm bundles of pleasure.
