On Sunday 8th May, Sherfield's Golf Team travelled to Wellington College for the ISGA Wellington Salver. In warm and sunny conditions, pupils Fred Gill and Albie Beeston, both in Year 8, competed hard in the stroke play event on a notoriously difficult and tight golf course. With gross scores of 75 and 77 respectively, Sherfield retained the Wellington Salver that they won last year with a combined total of 152 which was a full 5 shots clear of their nearest challengers in 2nd Place (City of London Freemans School) and 13 shots better than the school in 3rd Place, Rossall.
The magnitude of winning the Wellington Salver cannot be underestimated as the competition is fierce and includes established and respected sporting schools such as Millfield, Loretto, Wellington College and Gordon's. In addition to the team achievement, Fred also shot the third lowest score of the competition and Albie the fourth in a field that included over 80 golfers. Sherfield's Golf Team are due to play in several more events before the end of the Summer Term and we are confident of more competition success as the season unfolds.
