The children in Reception have had a very busy start to the term. Starting Reception is a big step for children; we are delighted all of the Reception children have made this transition look effortless. Many thanks to all parents that have worked with us to ensure that your child was well prepared.
This week in Reception class, the children have been completing enhanced provision activities based on writing their name. The children used various resources to write their name and used their name card to help them.
The children have also been learning all about colours, by naming them, creating pictures and mixing colours. The children identified that you can make new colours by mixing colours together. They even found out that you can make brown by mixing lots of colours together! The children explored different ways to mix colours by melting crayons in the oven.
As a lot of the children are new at Sherfield, we have spent some time exploring the school environment. The children were challenged to find key people around the school on a bingo hunt. The children are developing their gross motor skills by taking part in dough disco and class yoga sessions throughout the week. Their text driver is ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ so the children have had the opportunity to visit the different crayon themed enhanced provision areas within the classroom and out with the classroom. The enhanced provision activities are planned in accordance to the EYFS national curriculum.
We look forward to sharing more with you throughout this term about the Reception children's learning journey!
