On Wednesday 24th January, the GCSE and A Level English students were fortunate enough to be able to hear Carol Ann Duffy- Poet Laureate, Gillian Clarke- National Poet for Wales, Simon Armitage- Oxford Professor of Poetry, as well as a host of Britain’s current greatest poets, speak about their works and their inspirations. The enormously entertaining John Agard was a firm favourite with the students with many saying that they ‘would love to see him again’.
Peter Buckroyd, Chief Examiner, also led a workshop, giving advice for the GCSE Poetry examinations that the pupils are soon to sit. It was pleasing to see a couple of the Sherfield students, among the thousand present, asking some excellent questions of the poets who are represented in their GCSE texts.
