An amazing group of talented Sherfield artists have designed and painted a beautiful mural for the Nursery.
In the Autumn term, the Community Arts Enrichment Group were asked with a new project: to produce a mural in the Sherfield Nursery. After meeting with Nursery staff, the pupils in Years 5 to 10 established that the mural should include a variety of animals and transport depicted in a country landscape.
A group meeting was held to discuss the brief and then pupils got to work producing individual ideas before coming together as a group to produce the final visual. Extra ideas were added such as number and letter bricks with the idea that the mural could be used as a teaching aid as well as brightening up their environment. The visual was then presented to both staff and nursery pupils and we were given the go ahead.
During the Spring term the pupils set to work drawing the design onto the wall. Once the image had been transferred the painting began, each week colours were mixed to match the visual. They also designed a number of colouring sheets relating to the images on the mural for the children to colour in.
From the initial idea through to designing and then painting the mural they have worked hard to produce this wonderful piece of art. The nursery pupils loved watching the older pupils paint the bright colours and we hope they will enjoy looking at and naming all of the different things they can spot.
Looking ahead, this term the group have been asked to produce a series of framed paintings to be hung on a local GP surgery wall and there are already plans in place to produce some inspirational artwork for the Boarding house. Our in-house designers and artists look to be very busy for the foreseeable future!
