On Friday 16th March, Sherfield Gallery hosted the private view of its current exhibition, by the winning artist from this year’s Open Exhibition, Marjorie Collins.
The vibrant collection features over 30 watercolour paintings with a range of still life subject matter, including flowers, shoes and fruit.
Collins’ distinctive style has won the artist several painting prizes and exhibitions around the world.
Viewers commented on the impressive effect of the evenly painted tones and strong pigments in the works. The artist’s work is aesthetically engaging and contemporary, the range in dimensions on sale would allow anyone seeking to purchase either a larger or smaller scale work to find something to fit their needs.
TAG took the opportunity to interview the artist about her work and the processes behind it.
Marjorie has been painting since an early age and took the decision to change to using watercolour after discovering she was allergic to the sulphur in oil paint. She was however still fond of the strong colours and developed a style in which she could maintain this feature of her work.
She is a highly productive artist and develops numerous works simultaneously, with some pieces taking up to two years to complete, in which time several other paintings are produced.
The opening night was a wonderful occasion and the gallery are very pleased to have the opportunity to display this impressive body of work.
The exhibition is on display at Sherfield Gallery until 19th April 2018.
