The Summer term Liddell Concert Series on Friday 29 April features an evening of classical and flamenco guitar with musical duo Milica Davies and Ramon Ruiz.
Milica Davies
Milica’s story is inspiring; she was introduced to the guitar aged seven and would have given it up were it not for the war in her native Bosnia and her family's sudden decision to move to Australia.
Milica studied at the University of Western Australia under the great tutor Dr John Casey, whose pupils included the renowned guitarist Craig Ogden. By 21, Milica was opening concerts for José Carreras as a solo artist.
In 2008 Milica settled in London and by 2015 she had formed her own label. Her passion for music was shared by a fellow guitarist, flamenco master Ramon Ruiz, who has become a great collaborator behind Milica’s new album 'Go South in the Winter', due for release in 2016.
Ramon Ruiz
Born in Granada, Spain, Ramon Ruiz is arguably the UK's leading Flamenco Guitarist. Inspired by his father's passion for flamenco, Ramon started playing the guitar at seven years of age and never looked back since. By the age of 20 he was performing in ‘Los Gallos’ ranked as the best and most authentic flamenco club in Seville alongside renowned flamenco guitarists and dancers including Rafael Rodriguez and Israel Galvan.
After acquiring a solid foundation in flamenco dance and song accompaniment, Ramon moved to London where he furthered his career and musical collaborations. He has performed in London's most prominent theatres including the Royal Albert Hall and the Purcell Room, and now we welcome Ramon to Sherfield School!
With backing musicians and featured artists, this promises to be a truly memorable evening. To book your seat, please reply by email or send the booking form into school reception.
