Congratulations to Ankara (Year 4, pictured), who was the overall winner at our annual Prep School Spelling Competition last Friday. Well done to visiting pupils from Bramley School, who won the Year 5 and 6 heats, with Sherfield pupils collecting the rest of the year group prizes. I was pleased to win the teachers open round this year, with fiendishly challenging words such as taaffeite and cwms! Head of English, Mr Sentance-Davis rounded off the evening with poetry recitals from Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils. Maelle did fabulously well, winning first place with her presentation of She who has not died (1914). Thank you to all our impressive finalists, who competed on the evening. Many thanks to everyone for your contributions to Children in Need, raising a grand total of £1676.49.
Nursery hosted a very successful Christmas activity morning on Wednesday this week, supported brilliantly by parents. Indeed parent engagement throughout the Prep School and beyond is a key feature of our success. Friends of Sherfield have done a wonderful job, with our Facilities team, transforming the Main Reception and front of house area with Christmas decorations.
Now that December is upon us, the seasonal spirit is well under way. Come and visit our Christmas Market 12.00-4.00pm this Saturday, for lots of Christmas fun, gift shopping and meeting Santa in his grotto. If you are lucky you might see a real Rudolf Reindeer!
My quote of the week is “Advent is the time of promise; it is not yet the time of fulfilment.” Alfred Delp, Advent of the Heart: Seasonal Sermons and Prison Writings, 1941-1944
With all good wishes,
Mr Meakin (Head of Prep)
