Special news update for the news item below:
Following on from our students success at the Regional Finals, I am very pleased to announce that our student Morgan Johnston, now in year 9 came runner up in the ISA National Final KS3 drawing category with his charcoal drawing of a cast of Pope Gregory XV by the sculpture Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Our congratulations to Morgan and to Jess Wickens for their success in this annual competition and they will each be awarded a certificate soon. They no doubt are already planning their artwork for next years competition!
We are proud to announce that two art students from Sherfield School were individually awarded 1st place at the Independent Schools Associations’ South West Regional qualifying round. Jess Wickens and Morgan Johnston were each awarded 1st place for their watercolour self- portrait (KS3 2d) and charcoal cast drawing (KS3 drawing) respectively.
This was the first time both students have used the mediums to create this type of work and our artist in residence, Russell Bignold, stated that the students achieved magnificent results showing a high level of observation skills and the ability to work through the difficulties of handling each medium. Both students works will now go on to the national finals where we wish them every success.
In the prep years, the results were almost equalled by Saadhvi Varanasi who received a Highly Commended for her Woven Willow Butterfly in the Key Stage 2 Textiles category and Alice Seaborne, Tunay Takase, Pravansh Kanumolu, Alex Campbell, Tillie Reid and Harry Hand who came second in the Key Stage 2 Group category.
All this follows on from the success art students had in their recent GCSEs’……… it’s really is a good time to be taking art at Sherfield School
