During the last week, we have witnessed how globally interconnected our world is. As the news is dominated by the Covid-19 virus outbreak, it is important that we spare a few thoughts for the individuals and communities affected across the world. The devastating impact on health and wellbeing is significant and it is so important that we support each other globally during this difficult period.
With many of our boarding students unable to return to their home countries, the skiing trip recently returned from Northern Italy and the postponement of the Normandy and Paris trip next week, the impact has been seen much closer to home this week.
As a person with a ‘glass-half-full’ approach to life, I suggest we should always remember how communities pull together in times of adversity. Perspective is so important and we should consider carefully the facts presented, through a plethora of media communications which can sometimes be misleading. A positive outlook, particularly in difficult circumstances is essential and something we should always encourage our pupils to uphold.
On a much more positive note, this week is full of good news stories and opportunities, with success a real feature. I must give a special mention to Ben, Les, Jack and Angus from Year 9 who were successful in the recent GEMS X Global Innovation Challenge. You will be able to read more below from Mr Marshall, however, the boys have done exceptionally well to reach the next stage in such a prestigious global competition. We are incredibly proud of their achievement!
